UC Berkeley Intro to Design | Fall 2013 | Professor Darrel Fields
Course consisted of a guided exploration of the interlaced abstraction of two forms -- a man-made landscape (traditional French gardens) and an abstract art piece (“Blue and Black Abstract Composition“ by Tamara de Lempicka), through drafting and collaging techniques. Starting with the formal geometries of the formal gardens, content was duplicated, reduced, and post-processed to establish new hierarchies. On a parallel but related track, the abstract art piece was mined to understand its construction, and the ways that the same bones might result in a different skeleton if pushed into high contrast in one direction or another.
The final image is a result of projecting two of the garden compositions through each other, which in turn respond to one of the art compositions acting as a facade.
